Assessment/Planning
The occupational therapist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment
of motoric abilities and sensory functions that are necessary for students
to attain their maximum independence. Evaluation findings indicate needed
functional skill acquisition that is educationally relevant in the areas of
gross and fine motor skill development, life skills and pre-vocational
training. Behavioral goals and objectives are established by the
occupational therapist with relevant help from the collaborative team,
including the parents.
Treatment
Therapy is provided on an individual and/or group basis, as determined by
the evaluation results. Treatment may take place within a therapy room,
classroom or special activity area to facilitate the collaboration process.
Therapy Approaches
The following therapy approaches are utilized by the Occupational Therapy
Department, based on the needs of the student:
- Sensory Integration
- Neurodevelopmental Treatment Techniques (NDT)
- Myofascial Release
- Developmental Model
- Compensatory/Habilitative Model
